The good news is that this is not true at all. On one occasion while Jesus was on earth, Jesus attended a dinner that was hosted by Levi (Matthew the Apostle). Jesus had called him while he was engaged in his tax collecting business and he wanted to have a big dinner for Jesus, His disciples, and his friends.
Many of his tax collector friends, however, were sinners - and everyone knew it. The religious leaders of the day saw this, and they asked Jesus' disciples about it. In Mark 2:17, we see that "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Mark 2:17).
This verse makes it plain that sinners have no need to fear coming to Jesus for salvation. What needs to be understood is that repentance is necessary. This means changing your mind about sin. Whereas you gladly engaged in it before, now you hate it because you see that it will send you to Hell.
You also need to understand that Jesus Christ died on the Cross to pay for your sins. Although He had no sin, He willingly took our sins upon Himself and paid for them there. By believing on Christ after you repent, you trust Him for your complete salvation – nothing else is needed! See my previous post about believing on Christ is all that is needed for salvation.
No matter how sinful you are, Christ wants to save you. He does not want or need you to get cleaned up before you come. He will clean up your life after you come to Him.
He has promised to save "whosoever," and yes, dear reader, it means you, too. He loves all sinners and all of Heaven rejoices when a sinner comes humbly to Him in prayer for salvation.
If you have never asked Him to forgive and save you – why not do it right now and settle your eternal destiny?
