Airstrike on Hospital in Syria Kills 50

Earlier today, a pediatric hospital in Aleppo, Syria was hit by an airstrike. The hospital was operated by Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross. At least 50 people were killed, CNN reported, including children and four medical staff – among them the last pediatric doctor.

The Al Quds field hospital was operating in a rebel-held part of Aleppo. A missile from a fighter aircraft hit the hospital.

John Kerry has officially condemned the attack. No nation is yet admitting fault, including the U.S. and Russia.

There is supposed to be a peace treaty in effect, but it has basically been ignored by all sides. After this attack, efforts are hoped to revive the peace talks, but it appears doubtful. Instead of peace, attacks have intensified.

Suicides Hit Record Numbers

Ever since 1999, suicide rates have been climbing in the United States. The increase involves people between the ages of 10 and 75, according to CDC, CNN reports. According to the CDC, one person dies from suicide every 12.3 minutes.

The New York Times reported that middle-aged women, who were between the ages of 45 and 64, saw a large increase of as much as 64 percent over the past 30 years. Among men of the same age, the increase was only 43 percent.

Although the general suicide rate was at 10.5 per 100,000 people in 1999, it has now risen to 13 per 100,000 people. Altogether in 1999, the total number of suicides was 29,199; but in 2014, it was 42,773.

Suicide is currently the 10th leading cause of death in the US. Among girls aged 10 to 14, suicides have tripled between 1999 and 2014.

If you are having suicidal thoughts, or are feeling suicidal, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). People with suicidal thoughts or depression can also call.

Comment: It is certain that times are changing and stress is increasing. Overall, there seems to be a general high degree of uncertainty among most people everywhere.

Christ plainly spoke of times like this. He knew the future and all that will yet happen.

For those who are wondering about tomorrow and have little hope, let me clearly say that suicide is not an answer. Death does not end it all. Rather, death opens the door to eternity – but few are prepared for it.

Christians all over the world have discovered that Christ really does give peace, and He can help you. New York Judge Says Gov't Cannot Force Apple to Decipher Phone

2/29/2016

A Federal judge in Brooklyn, U.S. Magistrate Judge James Orenstein, today declared that Apple does not need to cooperate with the government and unlock a cellphone used in a criminal case. The government has been trying for months to require Apple to unlock one of their iPhones.

The phone in question in Orenstein’s court belonged to a criminal in a drug case. In California, the cellphone belonged to a criminal who was responsible for killing 14 people in San Bernardino, CA. The judge in the California case is not obligated to follow Orenstein's ruling.

The government continues to want access to cellphones encryption systems so that it can solve crimes or stop terrorism before it occurs, it claims. The Justice Department was not pleased with Orenstein's decision and says it will try to get a higher judge to rule in favor of forcing cellphone companies to hand over the keys to get access to cellphones.

The issue centers on the interpretation of the All Writs Act (AWA), a term that stems from the Constitution. The FBI says the AWA gives them the right to make such demands. Orenstein's decision basically says that the AWA does not give them that right because that was not the intention of the writers of the Constitution.

After a car bomb had exploded near the country's highest security prison on Thursday, the nation started rounding up ISIS suspects. Altogether, there were 431 people arrested.

It is believed that a number of terrorist plots were thwarted. These included possible attacks to Muslim mosques involving suicide bombers, a diplomatic mission, government facilities, and more.

Suspects had committed offenses against the country by providing aid to bombers, smuggling explosives, conducting surveys of possible targets, making vests for suicide bombers, and more. It is known that ISIS has determined to target some of Saudi Arabia's holy places and to remove Shi'ite Muslims from the area.

Warnings Issued by U.S. Government to Be Vigilant for Terrorists Over July 4th Weekend

According to an article at Yahoo.com, serious warnings have been given by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI about being vigilant about possible terrorist attacks in the United States. The things that make it more likely than usual are the combinations of the month of Ramadan, the first anniversary of the Islamic State, and America's Independence Day this weekend, July 4th.

Even the former Director of the CIA, Michael Morrell, says he will not be surprised if something happens this weekend. Others are also in agreement.

Because ISIS uses the Internet for recruiting purposes, they can also contact many just as fast to activate them. The spokesman for ISIS has told the group's members to "make Ramadan a month of disaster."

It seems that people in a lot of places are getting attached to the selfie craze. For one such person – an ISIS terrorist – it led to the complete destruction of one of their local HQ's.

The ISIS rebel posted his selfie of him standing in front of his HQ. He even announced on social media that it was their HQ.

Of course, the U.S. Air Force saw it on social media and soon recognized the building. That was all they needed. About 22 hours later, the building did not exist anymore.

Once again, several people may have been inadvertently exposed to a deadly virus from a military lab. The virus anthrax, supposedly a dead form, was shipped from a lab to the Osan Air Force Base in South Korea.

The material had been shipped for the purpose of conducting lab training exercises. Although the material was supposed to have been irradiated to kill the virus, live virus was discovered afterwards.

The material had also been shipped to more than 12 other labs in the U.S. – military and commercial. One of the recipients discovered it was still live.

The Osan Air Force Base has said that 22 people have possibly been exposed and are being treated. So far, no symptoms of the virus have surfaced. The public is not at risk of exposure. The CDC is investigating.
