Certainly the greatest consolation in the world is to know that everything is alright between you and the Almighty. This way, it matters considerably less what happens between the time that the consolation began and when you stand before God at last.
No matter who you are, you and I are always one step away from eternity. None of us knows what may occur on any given day. With coronavirus and flu going around, it pays to be ready in advance because there is no second chance.
The Apostle Paul wrote the words in the above verse. He knew for sure that his sins were forgiven. He was justified – which means that he was declared to be cleared of any transgressions against God's laws. He would never again be confronted by any of his sins - no matter how horrible they were. When you realize that Paul (as Saul) was a persecutor of Christians, and a blasphemer, you can realize how great a consolation it must have been to him.
It is important to see how he came to be justified of his sin. The verse makes it clear that "we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Note that Paul did not say that it came to him through a church, a religious leader, an ordinance, or anything else. In fact, if those things could provide justification in God's eyes, then Christ did not need to die for our sins.
Instead, Christ had to die if any of us were ever to be forgiven. He paid for all of your sins and mine on the cruel Cross. Our part is not to try and earn it, or to try and transform our lives because of it, but to believe that Christ is the only ticket to Heaven.
As such, you need to ask Him to forgive you of your sin, and to enter your heart and life as Lord (Boss). He will do the rest, including changing you and giving you power to live for God.
