Zika is spreading rapidly in the island nation. Testing was performed on more than 6,150 people on the island between Nov. 1 and April 14. The tests revealed that 683 had Zika at the present time, or in the past. This figure included 89 pregnant women. So far, 14 of the women have given birth to healthy babies.
Most people do not develop any symptoms, but about 20 percent will. Women who are pregnant are at the highest risk, since Zika can cause severe brain birth defects.
So far, Zika has not spread to the mosquitoes in the United States. In spite of that, 426 people from the U.S. who traveled to Zika infected countries have become infected.
