A report was released from Cancer Research UK that revealed that as many as 600,000 cases of cancer could have been avoided if simple lifestyle changes were made. This reveals that these cases did not have to happen, and four out of 10 cancers can be avoided.
The leading type of cancer that could have been avoided in the UK was cancer caused by smoking. This resulted in 314,000 cases over the past five years.
A second type of cancer that could have been avoided altogether is the one caused by eating red and processed meats. This type of cancer can be avoided by eating less meat and salt, and eating more vegetables, and more fruits and fiber than what most people typically eat.
Other forms of cancer are caused by being overweight, too much alcohol, and too little exercise. Getting too much sun is another cause of cancer that can be avoided. The message from this report, which is not new, is clear, it pays well to eat and live healthy.
