In the ensuing violence, Odai and Ghasan Abu Jamal killed four rabbis while they were praying. Three of the dead rabbis had dual American-Israeli citizenship, and the fourth person had dual Briton-Israeli citizenship.
Several other people were wounded in the attacks. The gunmen were later killed in a shootout with the police. While it is thought that they acted alone, there may be a militant group behind their actions.
The trouble is part of the ongoing strife that is occurring in Israel, largely between the Israeli police and Palestinian youth. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the incident and strife will be dealt with "a heavy hand."
Comment: Christians need to continue to be praying, as the Bible tells us, for the peace of Jerusalem. Don't forget, too, that God has promised to bless the nation that blesses the Jews (Genesis 12:1-3).
