Another three educators were given five-year sentences, and at least two years are required to be spent in jail. Others received varying sentences.
The scandal was uncovered in 2013. 35 teachers were indicted, along with the former superintendent of schools, Beverly Hall. Hall died earlier this year. The instructors were charged with changing students’ answers on tests, partly to get promotions and cash bonuses.
Cheating was occurring frequently by the teachers, and it had gone on for years. They were charged with racketeering, conspiracy, and more. This was the nation's largest cheating scandal.
