In Psalm 119:105, the Bible says: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Although lamps in Bible times did not produce much light, there was always enough to see the next step. This is what God promises. We do not know much about what will happen tomorrow in our lives, but we can know that He will guide us through it.
The light that He promises, however, is conditional. He requires that we be serving Him and obeying His Word. He tells us, in Psalm 112:4 "Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous." The key word in this verse is "the upright," which means the faithful or righteous.
Before any believer can be guided by the Word, it is necessary to know what the Word teaches first. Although someone may know some general Biblical principles and Bible verses, some of the deeper principles are never learned unless you engage in regular attendance at a church that plainly teaches the Bible and personal Bible study. A lack of knowledge of the Bible means a limited ability to be guided by it.
While a college degree is not necessary, being in the Word of God by reading and studying it daily will enable you to grow fast spiritually. Are you reading the Bible every day? Are you studying it?
The Apostle Peter tells us that believers should desire to read and study the Bible daily. Just like you need regular daily meals to grow physically, getting into the Word every day will enable you to grow spiritually and get better victory. He said, in I Peter 2:2: "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby."
Why not make a commitment right now, in prayer to God, and ask Him to help you to read the Word daily and study it? Then, if you will do what it says, and ask for God's help, you will see the growth, blessing, and guidance in your life that you need and want.
