Unfortunately, the FDA sent out a warning against these ultrasound booths, which are being seen in more and more shopping areas. The primary reason for the warning is that the ultrasound machines are intended to only be used by professionally trained medical staff – and the booth operators are usually not licensed or experienced.
In addition, the devices are only to be used when prescribed by a doctor. This is also true for other places that offer heartbeat monitors.
Another possible danger of the ultrasound device is that it could cause bubbles because it does heat the tissues involved. What effects this could cause when repeated or longer terms are used is unknown. Unlicensed operators of ultrasound devices have no guidelines and they could pose an unnecessary risk. A known problem is that it could lower sperm count.
If a parent decides to get an ultrasound picture, the FDA recommends getting one during your routine prenatal care. The doctors and ultrasound operators are aware that fetal imaging can promote bonding. They are also trained to use the devices safely.
