The real joy of Christmas, for the believer, is Christ, not Santa, or the gifts under the tree. When we think of what He left in glory to come down here and walk among humans for 33 years, is incredible. In fact, the more we think about it, the more incredible it becomes.
He came simply because He wanted to show us that He really did care for us. He came and was born of the Virgin Mary, through the miracle of the Holy Spirit.
He never usurps our will, but He does set a standard if we are ever to go where He is now. His Home is holy and it will always be that way. Sinners cannot enter.
This is why He had to come where we are. As sinners, we needed a Savior. Christ became the "Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Notice that it is not just the sin of Israel, but "the sin of the world." This means anyone can come to God through Christ – no matter where they live on this planet.
At this time of year, we often sing the well-known hymn: Joy to the World. Because of Christ, there can be forgiveness of sin, a cleansing from the guilt of sin, and a healing of the heart so that anyone can begin to serve God with power as he or she ought. Calling on Christ for salvation and having Him save you on the spot is something to have a lot of joy about.
Truly, the greatest joy at this time of year belongs to the one who is saved and on his or her way to Heaven. If you do not yet know Him as your Savior, why not ask Him to save you now, and make it a Christmas season you will never forget?
