America had enjoyed that position for a very long time. In fact, it was ever since Ulysses S. Grant was the president. Although it is not the largest margin between the two nations, it still is significant - $17.4 trillion for the US, and $17.6 trillion for China.
To show how fast this change was produced, the US produced as much as three times as much as China in 2000. Because all figures are based on what the nations themselves report, there is possibly some room for error.
Comment: This is not a good trend. If true, and there seems to be little real reason to doubt it, it indicates that the blessings of God on our land are diminishing further. We certainly have enjoyed them for a long time, and, by His grace, and with revival, we need to remember that they may be regained.
