The Olathe Northwest High School in Kansas City tested more than 300 students. Health officials say that the discovery of 27 students with the disease is within the expected amount of spread of TB.
Now that the students have been identified, they will be given free chest x-rays and antibiotics. This treatment will be paid for by the state and county, and it should kill the bacteria.
Those who tested negative may not be free yet of the threat of TB. The incubation period is eight weeks, so they will need to be retested later.
