The storm has winds of about 60mph, which is considerably less than a typhoon. In spite of that, it still carries all the water of a typhoon, and will be dumping a lot of it on the islands.
Islanders have been warned to expect flash floods, landslides, and storm surges. Many passengers for sea and air travel have been stranded as they are canceled for now.
The people of the Philippines are accustomed to their islands being hit with about 20 typhoons each year. Some of them have been very deadly and killed thousands. Two years ago, Super Typhoon Haiyan left 7,350 either missing or dead.
The storm will be hitting them on Sunday morning. This time of month, however, it is unusual.
