The three leaders included the top military commander – Abd al-Basit, the man in control of ISIS in Iraq – Radwin Talib, and a deputy who works with the leader of ISIS – Haji Mutazz. Loss of these three men, although it will have an immediate impact, will be limited because they certainly have plenty of men willing to replace them.
The extremist Sunni Muslim group continues to gain territory in some areas, and lose it in others. Yesterday, they attacked a military base with U.S. troops in it at the Ein al-Asad base. The ISIS attackers had to flee after the US called in airstrikes on their heavy weapons. This was the first direct encounter ISIS has had with American troops.
