Amazingly, on Sunday, it has already been 25 years since the Wall came down. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it was a real miracle that it came down without a single shot being fired. Millions of people were released on that day from the tyranny of an oppressive Communist state into freedom - something that most of them had never known.
The city of Berlin is celebrating the fall of the Wall, which came down on November 9, 1989. More than 100,000 Berliners walked along the 15-kilometer walk where the Wall once was. The path is now marked in celebration with lights and illuminated balloons.
Mikhail Gorbachev, however, had some other news for the world. He was the President of Russia at the time, and he tells us that it appears that a new Cold War may already be under way, particularly in the tensions and problems between Russia and Ukraine.
Comment: Christians also can celebrate when we were made free, too. We were in bonds to sin and could only look forward to the wrath of God. But God sent Christ to pay our price and redeem us from the penalty of our sins, and brought us into the glorious liberty that we now enjoy with Christ. Truly, we have much to celebrate and be joyous about – and Church is a great way to honor Him and give thanks!
Romans 8:21 ”Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”
