Microcephaly is a birth defect in which the baby's head is abnormally small as a result of improper growth of the brain. It is believed that microcephaly is the result of pregnant women being bitten by mosquitoes that are carrying the zika virus.
According to the New York Times, about 500,000 people are expected to attend the Olympics. The Games are scheduled to take place between Aug. 5 and Aug. 21.
The CDC also warns that zika may also be transmitted to pregnant women if their spouse goes to the games and is bitten by a zika-carrying mosquito. There currently is no vaccine for zika, or a cure.
Brazil is attempting to minimize the threat from zika for Olympic participants and guests, but many are doubtful.
