The attack took place on the campus of the Garissa University College, in the town of Garissa. Al Shabaab is a terrorist group based in Somalia, and the town is about 90 miles from the border. The group is the same one that attacked a mall in Nairobi.
Each of the terrorists had been strapped to explosives. Police and soldiers had surrounded the campus, but were turned back by gunfire. They attacked the terrorists and finally all four were killed – after 15 hours.
Altogether, 147 people were killed. Another 79 were injured.
Strangers had been spotted on the campus on Monday. Because of it, students were released to go home on Tuesday – but classes were going to be in session today.
The United States has condemned the attack and is offering to help Nairobi take them on.
