People who are between the ages of 40 and 64 are in this group. The recession was strongest between 2007 and 2009 and it greatly impacted a lot of people. At the start of the recession, suicide rates were the highest.
There were 17 different areas of problems that seemed to be related to the suicides. These included financial problems, mental health issues, legal problems, difficulties in school, and more.
If you know of people having difficulty in one or more of the above areas, they may be a candidate for suicide. It is becoming increasing important to recognize people who are at risk and direct them to those who can help.
Comment: Personally, I am meeting people here and there who know someone close who has already committed suicide. I met another one in this situation today. There is no doubt it is on the rise.
The good thing is that the believer has a Friend in Christ Who really can lift burdens and restore joy. He is real and so is His forgiveness, and He has power to keep the Christian who will trust in Him at all times. Thank God, that if we bring our problems to Him, He really can lift our load and lead us through the dark valleys of life into His glorious sunshine!
The Gospel really is good news and Christ still brings light to a dark world. Suicide is not a solution at all. Those who do not yet know Him as their personal Savior can come to Him at any time and He will receive and save them if they confess sin and trust Him as their only Savior.
