The seven men had put on fake police uniforms and stopped a caravan of vehicles coming from a wedding. The four women were traveling with their families on August 23.
After stopping the caravan, the armed men dragged the "women out of the vehicles, robbed them, beat them up, and then raped them. One of the women" was pregnant.
The men were caught and arrested shortly afterwards – still having the police uniforms with them. Within two hours they confessed their crimes.
Under the law in Afghanistan, the men have the right to an appeal. The country's president must also sign a document authorized the death penalty. Concerning the sentence, the local police chief said: "We want them to be hanged in public so that it will be a lesson for others"
In a country where this type of behavior often goes unpunished, this is a good example of how to stop the problem. As the police chief suggested, it certainly would make others think twice about this type of crime before committing it.
Even where these crimes may be occurring often, it needs to be remembered that God still hates it and He will hold everyone accountable for them. While He may be slow in dealing out justice, there is a day coming when all sins and crimes will be accounted for – and Hell will be the eternal punishment.
Thank God that in Christ He is willing to show abundant mercy and forgive – yes, even to rapists and murderers! They need to repent of their sins, and trust Christ as their Savior. Remember that Christ forgave the murderer from the Cross who died at His side when he asked for it. In the case of either one of the above crimes, though, man is still responsible before God to dish out a right penalty for those crimes!
