Now the Humane Research Council verifies it. They report that as many as 84 percent of professed vegetarians and vegans can't stay away from the meat for long. A survey revealed that only two percent of Americans do not eat any meat, and 88 percent have never stopped eating it.
The report says it plainly: it is not likely that when someone gives up meat that they will keep on living without it for long. They may go for even a few years while consuming the veggies, but most will return to consuming animals.
Of course, in America, we love a good meal! And for most men – it just would not be complete without some kind of meat. This is why there are so many fast food restaurants in every town, and 98 percent of them sell meat!
Comment: In the Bible, there was no need to eat meat prior to the Flood. Conditions on earth did not require it. After the Flood, however, things changed – not just in the matter of eating meat, but possibly in the atmosphere, in nature, in our bodies, etc.
While it is not mandatory that meat be eaten by believers in Christ, the Bible does warn that in the last days some religious groups will forbid it. God warns us that those groups are not in agreement with His Word, and we are warned to stay away from them: "Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth" (1Timothy 4:3).
Notice the last part of the above verse. It says that meats were created by God for us, and we are to thank Him for it – if you know the truth of His Word. We also need to be aware, though, that there is to be some sensitivity toward believers who may not yet be convinced of this truth – we are still to show love.
