The Lord asks a serious question of His people: Why do you invest your hard-earned money in things that do not satisfy? or for things that will not feed your body?
A lot of money in today's world is spent on "toys." Entertainment systems cost thousands of dollars, and people often feel that they must have the newest and the latest gadgets. Do any of them really provide lasting satisfaction? No, they do not. The newness wears off quickly and a new bling is needed to get the same buzz.
You also have to keep up with the latest trends and fashions - for what? Who really cares what so-and-so is doing? Will it matter in eternity? No, of course not.
God is asking people to take a look at their lives and find out what they are really looking for. After asking the questions, He provides a solution - "Listen to Me," He says.
This is something that needs to be done. Materialism can never satisfy. Listen to God. He wants you to hear His Word that you may be saved from your sin and live forever in Heaven. He promises that listening and doing what He says will result in eating "that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness." This refers to a satisfaction of the soul.
It is the Christian believer that is truly listening to God and following Him who really knows satisfaction and the peaceful life. Part of the reason for the satisfaction is that their sins are forgiven and that they know that what they do for Him will be rewarded in Heaven.
