After being on the run for 48 days, Eric Frein was captured. He remains in jail without bail. The charges against him are first-degree murder for an ambush that resulted in the death of Cpl. Bryon Dickson, and the wounding of Trooper Alex Douglass on September 12. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
In spite of hundreds of law enforcement personnel looking for him – with dogs, Eric was able to elude police for an incredibly long time. The police had come to believe that he was playing with them. He was never even spotted with infrared devices.
The three marshals surprised Frein and identified themselves. He did not put up a fight, and did have weapons nearby.
The total cost for the manhunt is estimated to be about $10 million. At some point after the arrest, the handcuffs from the officer he killed were placed on Frein.
From a Biblical point of view, this reminds me of the verse: “be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23). There is little doubt that Frein thought that he might get by with it.
He seemed to want to tease the police and play games with them. He might have even thought he was smarter than they were. Ultimately, they caught up with him, and now he will have to pay the price.
This is also true in the spiritual world. People do what they want and ignore God. Some could care less about His laws – and His future judgment. Unfortunately, we all need to be aware of God’s warning: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:7,8).
If God should “arrest” you today and you pass into eternity – are you ready? Have you trusted in the only One Who can forgive your sins – Jesus Christ?
