This number, which is 438 deaths higher than last week (6,915), reveals that Ebola is still not under control. The total number of cases of Ebola since the outbreak began is 19,031. This is 462 new cases in the past week.
The Ebola virus is certainly nowhere near being confined. WHO also reported that Sierra Leone, where the outbreak is spreading the fastest, had 392 new deaths in the past week. That means only 70 deaths occurred in Guinea and in Liberia – that is good news that the count is much lower in those countries.
In Sierra Leone, public gatherings and celebrations for Christmas and New Year's have been canceled. Authorities have been going house-to-house to find hidden cases of Ebola.
