Wilson continues to maintain his innocence in the shooting death of teenager Michael Brown. Riots – peaceful and otherwise – have taken place since August 9th, when he was shot and killed.
It is not yet known how the grand jury is going to decide in this case, but it seems rather doubtful that he will be charged. The administration has been acting as though they expect him to be declared innocent. Wilson did not want to resign too quickly, because it might appear that it would be an admission of guilt.
Comment: It is doubtful, with the turmoil in this town that is occurring, that Wilson would be safe – whether innocent or not. Of course, if the grand jury finds him guilty – a trial will most likely take place. Wilson says he is resigning to help protect his fellow officers and to relieve some of the pressure in the town – probably a good idea.
