In order to ensure that people are not celebrating it, and increasing the likelihood of spreading Ebola, the military will be making sure that there are no public celebrations of any kind. Not only is there not going to be any Christmas celebrations, but there won't be any New Year's celebrations either.
Sierra Leone now has more cases than Liberia, and it is spreading rapidly in some areas, including in Kona – in the diamond district. Just in the last week that ended on December 7th, there were 397 new cases.
Even while the curfew is on, people have been allowed to worship and go to work. Other public places such as bars and theaters have been closed.
A little more than 25 percent of the country is Christian, and most other people are Muslim. There has not been any limit placed yet on the new quarantines.
Comments: While Christmas celebrations may be canceled in Sierra Leone, Christians here can be thankful that God did not cancel the real first Christmas. Christ was born in spite of the impossibility of a virgin birth, government attempts to kill Him, Satan’s efforts to stop it, Jesus’ backing away from it, the pain, etc.
His birth and death are infinitely connected. Thank God He completed His mission of dying on the Cross to bring us a pardon – and eternal life. May we remember Him during this season.
