The Bible teaches us that Christ is coming back, first in the Rapture, then at the Second Coming. We do not know when this will be, but most people that believe the Bible think it is very soon. There is no doubt that He will return bodily with the saints that have died after His resurrection.
The question that needs to be asked is will you, as a Christian, be able to face Him with confidence? Although there are some believers that are seeking to please Him in all they do, it seems that most believers are rather indifferent to it and are making little preparation for that day.
The preparation needed is repentance from a lackadaisical life to one that truly follows Christ and His Word. Only the Christian that seeks to live close to Christ – the meaning of "abide in him," has any right to expect to "not be ashamed before him at his coming."
Most Christians are going to be speechless when they stand before the Lord and He requires an account of them of how they lived since they were redeemed. They can expect little in the way of rewards because they have lived for this life and not the next. They sought their own comfort and honor and not the Lord's.
Power and joy in the Christian life come from walking close to God. "In thy presence is fulness of joy" (Ps. 16:11). This means keeping sin confessed and spending much time in the Word: "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you" (Jn. 15:7).
