The two authors involved, Barrie Wilson, a professor of religious studies, and Sincha Jacobovici, a screenwriter and documentarian, say that they base their information on a document called the Ecclesiastical History of Zacharias Rhetor (of Mytilene). The text was written in Aramaic, and has been in the British Library.
Now, before I make my comments, let me first say I have not read the book – and do not intend to. Let me also say that I do not know if these authors believe it, but it sounds like they may just be reporting their findings. For what I am going to say, it does not matter. All that matters is that such an idea is floating around – and I intend to answer it.
Now, as to Jesus being married. Let me answer it first with two words – absolutely not! Anyone who would make such a claim does not understand what the Bible teaches about Christ – or at least does not believe it.
Here are seven reasons Jesus could not have been married:
1. He came to be a Sacrifice, not set up family life.
2. When Jesus died, he gave His mother’s care into the hands of John, but said nothing about the care for a wife.
3. He came to give new birth to spiritual children.
4. He never referred to a wife, nor did any of His disciples ever say that Jesus had a wife; but there is reference to Peter's wife (Mark 1:30).
5. If the sinless Savior had children, there would have been a new race (some angels – demons – tried this and were punished).
6. Prophecy indicates that Christ's children would be those who were redeemed – not natural born: (Isaiah 53:10) "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand."
7. Christ came to call out a Bride for Himself. It really does not matter what some other documents might declare. There is only one inspired Book, and it does not have any missing chapters! He has promised to preserve it for us, and He has! Praise God!
