The school was run by the military and those that were killed were mostly students. It was discovered on Wednesday that the Taliban had prepared a "hit list" of boys that they wanted to kill during the Peshawar attack. The reason was that they were the sons of army officers.
The school was targeted by the Taliban because it wanted to get revenge on a military attack back in June. They claim that the military had killed some of their wives and children at that time.
On Wednesday, military and intelligence leaders from Pakistan went to Afghanistan to seek help in finding the leaders of the Taliban responsible for the attack. The Taliban operates on both sides of the border, and the two countries have been at odds, partly because Pakistan partly supported the Taliban.
The Pakistani leaders provided evidence that the attack was performed by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The countries are also trying to put an end to what has been in the past called "good" and "bad Taliban."
One reason for the sudden drastic violence of the Taliban may be the seeming success that ISIS has had in Iraq. America may also decide that helping to stop the Taliban now may be better than trying to do so after they gain control of one of Pakistan’s nukes.
