The resulting blaze has put almost 500 people in the hospital, and 202 of them are in serious condition. One woman, who is 20, has died from her burns, and her brother, who is 12, has burns on 90 percent of his body.
The dye used for the colored powder was starch-based, and it was flammable. The powder, combined with the heat of almost 97 degrees, was enough to greatly elevate the risk of it catching on fire.
The buyers of the party had been warned of a possible fire hazard. Police are now considering charges against the organizers.
