The massive amount of water had flooded roads, swelled rivers, and prevented traffic from moving. One dam had ruptured east of Austin. All of the water that was behind the dam emptied out in fewer than three hours.
More than 500 rescues had to be performed in the area. Many of them were from people who tried to drive their vehicles across high water on roads. 11 people were killed in the storms in Texas and Oklahoma.
12 people have been reported missing. They were staying in a vacation house, which was swept away when the floodwaters came in. The search is continuing.
Across the border, in the Mexican town of Ciudad Acuna, which is right across from Del Rio in Texas, a tornado struck. It destroyed a seven-block area, which had more than 200 homes in it. Now, there aren't even any walls or roofs remaining. 13 people were killed during that event, and five are still missing.
